Thematic Explanation:

75 years ago, India gained freedom and independence from the British. The definition of independence, however, has evolved over the years. What does the word mean to the youth today?  What is it that we’d really love to be free from? Trying to define independence is like trying to define breathing. It is always there. It is a state of being.

“Independence is a state of mind, like a free bird having boundless wings, it can fly higher and higher.”

Freedom and Independence has many horizons. As a girl it meant being able to follow the dreams. As teenagers, this meant being able to wear clothes, listen to music, read books and speak the kind of language we love. As an adult it means being able to live life by our own standards without having to bother about societal hang-ups. As a woman, it means being able to walk on the road at any time without fear. As a citizen it means being able to exercise all the Constitutional Rights, irrespective of discrimination. And most importantly, as an individual, it means living in a society where we don’t have to pretend.

Category Description for Essays

 (a) Descriptive Essay

Descriptive views of person, place, experience, emotion, situation, etc with the goal to paint an image that is vivid and moving in the mind of the reader should be incorporated. The author(s) can put forth his views regarding the happenings in the society. Putting forth the adroit vision of independence. Descriptive is a more formal, informative and to the point type of write-up category.

(b) Narrative Essay

Narrative stories or personal experiences have characters, incidents, and dialogues, also have a single motif, or a central point, around which the whole narrative revolves. The author(s) can write about the experience he/she has and try to put forth the situation he has gone through. Putting forth the experience in independent India. Narrating in a storyline, can be a little informal and being elaborative about the personal experiences.

(c) Argumentative Essay

It must be against or for the motion of a relevant topic that the author has to frame out in the beginning of the essay. Arguments must be supported by evidence and facts.

Can follow: The Toulmin model or The Rogerian model. For example, if you want to write about “Youth and Social media in relation to freedom of expression”, you have to write in favour or against justifiably, directly according to the Toulmin Model, OR, you can go talking about both the aspects, comparing both the sides and concluding the essay favoring or opposing the topic justifiably, following the Rogerian Model.
